Wendover Woods  are to the south east of the B4009 between Wendover and Tring.

From Wendover, take the B4009 towards Tring, take the right hand turn approximately 1 mile north of RAF Halton, signposted Wendover Woods and St Leonards. The main entrance to the woods is found on the right as you approach the gold club.

From the A41, take the Wendover exit (also signed Dunstable) and take the B4009 towards Aston Clinton. Take the first left towards Wendover. After approx 1/2 mile, take a left signposted Wendover Woods and St Leonards. The main entrance to the woods is found on the right as you approach the gold club.

Local buses will take you as far as Halton and the Chiltern Line runs a regular service to Wendover from Marylebone. For details of public transport visit http://www.transportdirect.info

Parking:

Park in the main car park of Wendover Woods.

Don't arrive too early - unless you want to take part in the parkrun - the car park may be very busy.  There is also a craft fair.

There is a #steep# charge for car parking - you may wish to car share.  Cards only.  You pay just before leaving.  There are parking compliance patrols.

 Please park as close as possible to the southern corner of the car park

Terrain:

Typical Chiltern woodlands with steep slopes and generally runnable beech and pine forest blocks, with a well-developed path network. 

Note that the tarmac road through the woods which the general public use is regarded as out of bounds. Part is marked on the map as a ‘forbidden route’. It may only to be crossed at right angles. Competitors must not run along the road or its verge.

Wendover Woods contains a 'Go Ape' Zip Wire area. Go Ape will be open during our event, and the relevant areas are marked out of bounds on the map, but competitors should be aware that there are low wires in these areas.

General:

Wendover Woods are extensively used by the public for walking, cycling and horse riding. Please be courteous towards other users and look out for bicycles and horse riders especially as you emerge onto paths and tracks.

Map:

Waterproof map A3, scale 1:10000, with 5m contours.

The area used will cover a size just larger than A4.

Registration:

Look for the ARDF feather flag

Start:

About 500m walk from assembly to start. All competitors to gather at assembly for registration and then walk to the start en-masse.

There will be a clothing transfer back from the start to the finish. Black polythene bags will be provided if required. Please do not bring excessive items to the start as there is only one person to transport it via a car to the finish.

Courses:

There will be five 3.5Mhz transmitters in the wood. 

A number of which will have to be found depending on age class:

M19 - M60, W19-W45 - 5 Tx

W55 - 4 Tx (any 4 from five)

M70 - 4 Tx (any 4 from five)

M80 - 3 Tx (any three from five)

There will also be a home beacon and finish.

Transmitters:

  • 3.579 Mhz : Tx 1,2,3,4,5
  • 3.542 Mhz : Beacon

Transmitter Exclusion Zones :

  • Start zone : no transmitter within 750m of Start, pre-marked on map
  • Finnish zone : no transmitter within 400m of Beacon, pre-marked on map
  • No transmitter with 400m of any other transmitter

The punching order is:

Start, Set of Tx's, Beacon, Finish.

Time limit: 120 minutes

11:45 Impound of Receivers & Transmitters on air

12:00 First Start

12:30 Last Start

Call up & Map distribution : Your Start - 10

Facilities:

There are toilets located at the main visitor centre/cafe near to the car park.

The cafe serves hot food, sandwiches, cakes and coffee etc.  It can get VERY busy between 10:00 and 11:00 (parkrun breakfasts)

Results:

Results will be displayed near the Registration tent and will be posted on the

RSGB ARDF website (http://www.nationalradiocentre.co.uk/ardf) shortly after the event.
