 Day 3 - 2m Classic

Will be held in association with the Chiltern Challenge Orienteering Event https://tvoc.org.uk/events/chiltern-challenge-2025-hambleden-east/

We will have separate entry, registration, download, start and finish.  Park as directed by the marshals and then look for the ARDF feather flag

Based on map used for British Relay Championships in 2023.

The area used will cover A4

Terrain:

Classic Chiltern undulating slopes covered in mature beech or mixed deciduous and conifer. Brashings and undergrowth are limited.

General:

Hambledon East is used by the public for walking, running, dog walking, cycling and horse riding. Please be courteous towards other users, especially those with dogs and horse riders ­ our future  use of these areas depends on this.

In particular please look out for bicycles and horse riders especially as you emerge onto paths and tracks.

Note there will be a major orienteering event taking place - we are guests of the local orienteering club - please behave appropriately 

Start:

There will be a clothing transfer back from the start to the finish. Black polythene bags will be provided if required. Please do not bring excessive items to the start as there is only one person to transport it via a car to the finish.

Finish:

300m to Assembly

Transmitters:

  • 144.525 MHz : Tx 1,2,3,4,5
  • 144.775 MHz : Beacon

Transmitter Exclusion Zones:

  • Start zone : no transmitter within 750m of Start, pre-marked on map
  • Finnish zone : no transmitter within 400m of Beacon, pre-marked on map
  • No transmitter with 400m of any other transmitter

Control sites will be marked by 30cm kites/lanterns, the same size as the foot-o orienteering competition. Transmitters/si-units will be marked with a label Tx1 .. Tx5

Courses:

There will be 5 144Mhz transmitters in the wood. A number of which will have to be found depending on age class.

There will also be a home beacon and finish.

The punching order is:

Start, Set of Tx's (3, 4 or 5), Beacon, Finish.

Time limit: 150 minutes

Punching: SportIdent, standard punching, not SIAC enabled.


Timings:  may run late, depending on when people arrive.

09:00 Gather at assembly for transit to start:
    There will be a convoy to drive to the North edge of the map

09:30 Transit to Start once everyone has arrived

09:50 Impound of Receivers

10:00 Transmitters on air

10:00 Beacon on air

10:15 First Start

Call up & Map distribution : Your Start - 10

Receiver collection : Your Start - 5

Last Start :

Course Close : Last Start + 150

Facilities:

Toilets at the Assembly area.  Possibly also food service and orienteering shops (check the orienteering information)

Safety issues:

Safety bearing is to head South, until the Assembly fields are found or the road at the boundary of the area.

Results:

Results will be displayed near the Registration tent and will be posted on the

RSGB ARDF website (http://www.nationalradiocentre.co.uk/ardf) shortly after the event.
